Jishnu Dasgupta is the Bihari-accented bass player of Bangalore-based folk-rock band Swarathma. Before playing with Swarathma he was the bassist of the XLRI band bodhiTree, best known for cult underground hits like 'GMD'. With engineering and MBA degrees from India's top schools, Jishnu was all set for a corporate career in marketing, but all that changed when he joined Swarathma in 2007. Since then he quit his brand-manager job, became a full-time musician and began a communications consultancy practice.
The band grew from strength to strength into one of India's premier acts winning a nation-wide band-hunt, releasing two full length albums, featuring on award-winning TV series The Dewarists, working with acclaimed UK-based producer John Leckie and touring the world. Apart from playing bass for the band, Jishnu also manages the band's social media, PR, marketing tie-ups and content. And the accent he uses on stage is actually Allahabadi, and not Bihari. |
